Learn more about Guided Biofilm Therapy

What is Biofilm?

Biofilm is plaque. That sticky tooth coloured bacterial film that coats your teeth daily. It is responsible for tooth decay and gum disease.

What is Guided Biofilm Therapy?

Simply, this is a new approach to an old problem. Identifying areas where biofilm remains despite your very best cleaning efforts. A dye is applied to highlight these areas first. This guides both patient and hygienist to complete biofilm removal techniques.

Will the treatment be different?

Biofilm is gently removed using the very latest Airflow®. This is a combination of warm water and Eryithritol powder. This has antibacterial properties as well as reducing the biofilm's adherence to the enamel. Through its design it can remove more biofilm from hard to reach areas during treatment. It leaves the tooth surface hygienically clean and polished

Does it remove hard scale?

Airflow® removes light stains and biofilm. It utilises sonic waves to remove more stubborn deposits when needed.

Do I have to have this new treatment?

No. Although Guided Biofilm Therapy is recognised as the gold standard for hygiene therapy it may not be for everyone. Chat to your hygienist and a treatment approach can be decided.
